The Council's Cabinet member for Highways, Transport & Public Services has accepted an invitation from Croydon Cycling Campaign to start the borough's participation in the national Festival of Cycling.
Councillor Gerry Ryan, who for many years cycled to work said, in accepting the invitation to take a tour of the existing and proposed cycle routes linking the city centre with Norbury, "I look forward to improving conditions within our Borough for everyone". The ride is designed to give a flavour of current backstreet cycle paths that form part of the London Cycle Network in Croydon and the potential for direct, faster and shorter routes along main roads such as London Road. All cyclists are welcome to take part, and should meet outside the Town Hall in Katharine Street to set off at 5.30pm on Tuesday 19th June 2001.
Other local events include free tricycle rickshaw rides in North End on Saturday 23rd June.
On Sunday 24th June cyclists will meet at 2.15pm at the junction of Spout Hill and Shirley Church Road for a relaxed six-mile family orientated ride along the Waterlink Way leisure route to South Norwood Country Park for a picnic.
