CCC AGM elects Ruth Chapple chair

Croydon's Cycling Campaign's AGM on Wednesday October 20th heralded several changes, with a new constitution and new management committee voted in, and Ruth Chapple becoming chair.

New management committee

The new committee: Austen, Ruth and Jim

The constitutional change, passed by the required 2/3 majority, made one major amendment; reduction of the size of the management committee. In a group of just 140 members, a management committee of 5 was proving unsustainable (places were unfilled; bear in mind that even very large groups of 800 like Lambeth have just 10 committee members). The new committee size of 3 should prove more workable until we get more growth in membership. Meanwhile other roles can be co-opted by the committee when a need exists and volunteers are available.

Liz Mincer, Jeremy Rickard and Colin Howes stood down from the committee, although all are continuing with specific projects for CCC. Austen Cooper and Jim Bush were elected secretary and treasurer respectively, with Ruth Chapple joining the committee for the first time as our youngest ever chair. In her day job, Ruth works as a director and instructor for Cycle Training UK Ltd.

The regular monthly meeting followed, with Philip Loy (the LCC's borough group officer) kindly attending. Objectives for the coming year were agreed. These were: (1) pursuing LCN+, especially the town centre routes; (2) increasing membership and active membership; (3) improving the Cycle Forum; (4) reopening one-way streets; (5) better networking with key decision makers and other community groups; and (6) publishing the Walking & Cycling Survey report.
