Croydon Rickshaw Co-operative got going in earnest this week, with trials of two "pedicabs" in Croydon town centre.
A customer gets a helping hand
Although the official launch of the tricycle rickshaws is still some weeks away, project coordinator Howard Grange expects the town centre service to be continuous from now onwards. For a charge of £2 per person (or 50 pence for Freedom Pass holders) the rickshaws transport customers in eco-friendly style to destinations within a 2 mile radius. Customer reaction so far has been very positive.
The project is still very much in its early stages, with considerations such as a permanent base for the rickshaws in the process of being resolved. The service is still expected to be based within the Waddon estate area which is intended as its primary focus.
