At the end of December last year Council Leader Hugh Malyan made the following New Year resolution in the Croydon Guardian:
For the residents of Croydon, I want to provide an even cleaner greener borough at
a prudent price, because that's what they deserve. And as a family to increase our
awareness of recycling and environmentalism. Perhaps I could start by getting on the
push bike I bought a couple of years ago, and trying to cycle to the town hall!
Well we immediately offered assistance to Cllr Malyan to help him get onto his bike and on Friday 15th March he took up the offer and rode with Councillors Gerry Ryan and Martin Tiedemann, and three members of Croydon Cycling Campaign, from Norbury Station to the Town Hall.
The morning cycle ride in the rain made a picture story in the Croydon Guardian and helped to further underline the importance of cycling to both major parties in the run up to the council elections at the beginning of May. (Hugh Malyan is wearing the yellow jacket)
