Saturday, September 22nd 2001 sees Croydon's first ever Car Free Day event. Proceedings in Fell Road kick off at 10am with the arrival of Jenny Jones, Greater London Assembly member for the Green Party.

Ongoing on-street and circus entertainments continue at intervals throughout the day.

A convoy of three tricycle rickshaws plus the Zero Emission Vehicle sets of to collect families from a Warehouse Theatre matinee. The rickshaws continue the delivery of Car Free Customers from the town centre throughout the day.

Just off camera, the many stalls in Queens Gardens offer refreshments, and promote community walking, activities and charities.

Kids Zone allows young children to skip, space-hop, cycle and play safely in the street.
At the Katharine Street end of Fell Road, children play in the shiny red bus next to the Dr. Bike stall, while staff offer free bus tickets.
